WESTEC 2002

LOS ANGELES--(BUSINESS WIRE)--March 15, 2002--The California Manufacturing Technology Center announced today it is exhibiting and presenting the first-ever Lean Manufacturing Forum and Conference at the Society of Manufacturing Engineers' (SME) WESTEC 2002 Advanced Productivity Exposition (APEX), March 18-21, at the Los Angeles Convention Center. Considered as North America's largest annual metalworking and manufacturing event, WESTEC brings together over 750 showcasing companies for an expected audience of manufacturing professionals from the western United States and 40 other countries.
Presented jointly by SME and CMTC, the Lean Manufacturing Forum and Conference takes place March 19 and 20. Through four half-day sessions, attendees will learn how to improve quality, reduce cycle time, improve delivery time and reduce work in progress. Sessions include: "Lean 101: The Principles of Lean Manufacturing," "Lean 201: Apply Lean Principles Using a Live Simulation," "Quick Sigma -- Six Sigma Done Right!" and "Setup Reduction: Improving Quality and Decreasing Cycle Time."
"Although WESTEC is focused on the areas of manufacturing, a bridge from quality to manufacturing is in Six Sigma," notes Si Daily, director of quality services, CMTC. Commenting on the value-add of the education sessions for conference participants, Daily adds, "CMTC will present Quick Sigma as the new approach to Six Sigma. With the implementation of Quick Sigma, companies will be able to realize the benefits of a Six Sigma program without having to make a large financial investment."
Manufacturers will find the latest machine tools and metalworking technologies at the four-day expo. Attendees will be able to see hundreds of new products, equipment and services and can find leading-edge solutions for manufacturing challenges. For current manufacturing engineers and technology practitioners, WESTEC will provide two sets of conference programming -- Lean Manufacturing Forum and Conference and Exhibitor-Led Product and Technology Forums. For future manufacturing professionals, two annual student events are planned -- the WESTEC Manufacturing Challenge and the WESTEC Student Summit.
